The Summer has set early in Hyderabad and so far there has been no proper mechanism in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to record Ultraviolet (UV) Index. Ultraviolet (UV) Index is a measure of UV radiation intensity.
Most cities have developed this across the world and UV index is measured for every one hour. The information is also made available so taht citizens can take all measures to protect themselves from harmful UV rays. India's UV index is defined by Ministry of Earth Sciences and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology.
If the range of UV index is between 1 to 4, there is no health risk. If the index is 5, it is of low risk and public are less likely to be affected. When index is 6 to 9, People are advised to UV protective creams and other accessories. When the UV index is above 10, it is high risk and people are advised to avoid direct Sun exposure.
Such a mechanism is desperately needed in cities of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It is already predicted that the UV Index value will go up to 11 in Hyderabad and it changes peaks between afternoon 2 and 3 pm.
